Vending Machine Controllers, Signage Players and Kiosk PCs — by Industry

Tell us the application and we match the hardware to it. Six jobs we build fanless embedded computers for: vending machine controllers, industrial digital signage players, self-service kiosk PCs, smart locker controllers, in-vehicle computers and access control panels — using OCTIMUS mini PCs with 1 to 160 TOPS of on-device AI and KEL all-in-one PCs at 10.1" and 21.5". This page is organised by application; the Products page is organised by hardware type.

Vending Machines

A vending machine controller has to run the mechanism, the product display and the payment reader, 24/7, inside a sealed cabinet. OCTIMUS B is the volume choice when the machine already has its own front panel — fanless, 1 TOPS, 4K output, LAN and Wi-Fi. When the machine face is the screen, KEL-21L puts a 21.5" Full HD all-in-one PC with a 6 TOPS NPU and RS232/485/TTL behind it.

Digital Signage

An industrial digital signage player has to keep playing without a fan, a filter or a reboot. OCTIMUS B is the volume choice for 4K loops across a display network; OCTIMUS X moves up to 8K output with a 6 TOPS NPU when the content has to react to what a camera sees. KEL-21L is the same job with the 21.5" screen already in the unit.

Self-service Kiosk

A kiosk PC needs a touch screen, ports for the printer and the scanner, and enough AI to read what is in front of it. KEL-XL is the all-in-one PC route — 10.1" touch, 6 TOPS NPU and RS232/485/TTL in a single unit behind the kiosk face. OCTIMUS X is the choice when you supply your own larger screen: 8K output, 4G and RS232 on board.

Smart Locker

A smart locker controller opens the right compartment, checks who is standing there and reports back to the system behind it. KEL-X is the straightforward all-in-one PC for it — 10.1" 800×1280 touch with RS232/485/TTL for the lock board. KEL-XL is the same unit plus a 6 TOPS NPU when the locker recognises a face or reads a parcel label on the spot.

Connected Mobility

An in-vehicle computer sits in vibration and unstable power, with nobody on board to restart it. OCTIMUS STEAM is built for that spot — 6 TOPS NPU, dual LAN, serial and optional CAN, so it can sit between the vehicle bus and the back end. OCTIMUS X is the pick when the job leans on cameras rather than gateway duty: 6 TOPS, 8K output and 4G on board.

Access Control

An entry point is a card reader, a biometric device, a door — and a panel someone touches every day. KEL-X is the 10.1" all-in-one PC for it, with RS232/485/TTL to talk to readers and door controllers directly. KEL-XL adds a 6 TOPS NPU when identity is checked on the panel itself instead of on a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mini PC or panel PC — which one does my application need?

A mini PC is the computer on its own, connected to a screen or a machine you already have, which is what a signage player or a vending machine controller usually needs. An all-in-one PC has the touch screen, the computer and the I/O in one unit, which suits a kiosk face, a locker door or an access panel. If someone has to touch it, choose the panel PC.

What should I check for a machine that runs 24/7?

Fanless first. Heat leaves through the enclosure instead of a fan, so there is no fan to seize, no filter to clean and no dust path into a sealed cabinet. Every OCTIMUS and KEL model behind these six applications is fanless, which is why they go into vending machines, roadside enclosures and lockers nobody services weekly.

How many TOPS of AI does the application need?

Playback and machine control run on 1 TOPS (OCTIMUS B). Kiosk vision, locker recognition and identity checks on the panel sit at 6 TOPS (OCTIMUS X, OCTIMUS STEAM, KEL-XL, KEL-21L). Several camera streams at once, or a language model running on the device, needs 160 TOPS (OCTIMUS Max).

What can I connect — screens, readers, sensors?

Display output is 4K on OCTIMUS B and 8K on OCTIMUS X. Card readers, lock boards, bill validators and sensors connect over RS232/485/TTL, which every KEL model carries. OCTIMUS X has 4G and RS232 on board; OCTIMUS STEAM adds dual LAN and optional CAN for vehicles and sites with many devices to talk to.

Can the hardware be changed to fit our machine?

Yes. ODM and OEM work runs from a modified port layout through to a full custom board, shipped under your own brand from prototype to mass production. The design is ours and it is built in Thailand, so a change request goes to the engineers who drew the board. See services →

Your application isn't listed?

We design and build to specification. Describe the application and the environment, and our engineers will tell you what it takes.
